Hi! My Name is Washington Roberts and my passion is to design clothing. I create RTW women’s clothing that are elegant but with an edge.
To really know me you have to know my history. I was born in Nigeria and raised by my grandparents. My grandmother was an amazing seamstress. As a young child I observed her attention to detail and steady hand as she created highly coveted clothing. At the time, I didn’t know how this would greatly influence my future.
I relocated to New York with an interest in pursuing my Chemical Engineering career. Though shortly after arriving, I realized that my true calling was in fashion. I studied Fashion Design and Merchandising for several semesters at Katherine Gibbs before I landed my first internship with Stylist Kithe Brewster. It eventually turned into a full time job.
After that I designed for several high end brands including American Rag, Tory Burch, Victoria Secret and Vera Wang before branching out and starting my own collection. I was finally able to get my point of view across and have the creative freedom I so desired. I had my first presentation on the 30th of May in 2010 and have not looked back since then. I have successfully presented 4 collections. I do all sample development and even production when needed.
Washington Roberts Collection is refined, modern for a progressive woman who appreciates the ability to transition from day to night with ease prepared for any and every situation.
I envision my collection in Barney’s New York and other high-end, retailers around the world. I plan on achieving this by executing a fine-tuned PR/Marketing strategy and attending shows such as Magic, Coterie, and other platforms to bring visibility to my brand among the trade. I want to create an in-house production team so I can control the quality of the garments. Most importantly, I want all my pieces to be made right here in the USA providing jobs to the men and women who need it. With your help, I will be able to accomplish this.
