Born in 1987 as Michael ISEBIAMA David(Jnr ), the artiste whose rich light toned voice and intelligent guitar skills we hear today has a story and a mission. Lagos born and bred, Isebiama grew up in a small family with two older siblings. He often separated himself from the rest of the house to play with his hand made toys. “I learnt to think deeply as a child. I acted out lengthy self-thought stories with my toys. This I believe has helped my creativity and song writing”. He loved music as a child and was in the children’s choir of his local church where he learnt to play the keyboard to common praise choruses.
It wasn’t until his early years in the university that he began to play the guitar and learn to sing. “I remember that day in school, I was doing my laundry and singing James Blunt’s You’re Beautiful when someone came into the laundry and said he thought a radio was playing. That day marked a turning point in my vocal life” He decided while in the university to pursue a career in music and left Covenant University at 300 Level where he studied Accounting in 2007 to pursue an education in Music. This move a lot may see as unorthodox but he says “I think anything worth doing at all is worth doing well”
He discovered the prestigious MUSON School of Music and immediately applied and was awarded a scholarship to study a 2 year course in 2008 by MTN Foundation. After two years of immense theory, history and practical training, and some experience as a professional working musician(vocalist, guitarist & educator), Isebiama is ready to speak to the world. He is ready to share that story and carry out that mission with a powerful tool; Music.
His debut single “Again”(dated for release on 30th June 2012) does a great job at containing this story in a 4minute record. The song “Again” with its simple chord progression, complex guitar vamp, 90′s hip-hop drum kit, harmonica and crude garage rehearsal feel, seems to speak a different story in every other phrase, but all headed in one direction: “Life is a lot easier than we all make it appear. Forget its worries & burdens, Love your neighbour with an open mind” a message well needed in today’s hard to live in world.
The Urban gospel Singer, Songwriter and Guitarist whose music has rich influences of soul and soft rock, deeply believes and says “I am a story being told by God. My ups, downs, mistakes, successes, pains and happiness are lessons in that story to be learnt. Not by me alone, but you too”. Isebiama’s heart goes out to movements that will make Nigeria, Africa and the world a united place full of people with integrity, honesty, courage and love as their values, this is the primary goal that he aims to achieve with his music.
ENJOY A FRESH SOUND!!!
