Showcasing at an international fashion week, attracting people from the most creative and fashionable corners of the world, is every designer’s dream. There is plenty of undiscovered talent hidden in seamstress studios and fashion houses all across Africa and in the UK.
Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) has collaborated with See Africa Differently with the aim of giving those designers the exposure they need. AFWL will be hosting a competition for one lucky designer to win the opportunity to showcase their collections to press, buyers and 10,000 visitors in London’s Spitalifields, the venue for this year’s edition on 3rd and 4th of August.
To enter designers must:
· Submit five high res images of their collection
· Submit a 300 word (maximum) biog detailing the inspiration behind their collections, and what showcasing at the event means to them
All submissions should be made to seeafricadifferently@comicrelief.com by the end of June. A panel consisting of members of See Africa Differently and AFWL will then short list entries. The five finalists will be submitted to a vote by the public.

“At the heart of Africa Fashion Week London is the willingness to showcase the work of African and African inspired designers to an international level audience as well as work with them to become sustainable brands. We are looking for a creative and unique talent that lives and breathes fashion. My advice to inspiring designers thinking of taking part is to go for it! Show us the pieces you’re particularly proud of, those that encapsulate what your brand stands for. Above everything, we are looking for real zeal and passion, someone that is hungry for success. Working with See Africa Differently is perfect as we share the same ethos; we’re both committed to positively promoting Africa. I’m really excited to see the entries.”
In little over two month’s time, Africa Fashion Week London will be headlining at London Spitalfields Market Halls. On 3rd and 4th August 2012, African and African inspired collections from all corners of the continent will showcase some of the very best Africa has to offer. The show will feature catwalk shows and exhibition stalls full of clothes, fashion accessories, homewares and jewellery.

The two day event celebrates the work of African inspired designers in the UK; the event is the only to dedicate its efforts to promoting and supporting inspiring talents. The annual event debuted in 2011 and welcomed 4,700 visitors. Created by Ronke Ademiluyi CEO AFWL aims to be the single, biggest African event in the UK.
