AFI provided the platform for Arise Emerging designer of the year Amaka Osakwe to show her first spring/summer collection from her label MAKI OH and in usual fashion she delivered the goods hot and fresh. It takes more than finance, talent and luck -which the designer possesses- to succeed as a designer, you’ve got to be smart as well. Maki OH shows her business savvy with her unique aesthetics that can be spotted a mile away. I keep saying for any designer to truly innovate you can’t afford looking to the left or right, checking out what other designers are doing, you got to look inwards and Maki does this with finesse. This collection featured custom prints and interesting geometric cuts on sheer fabric. Upon closer inspection you can see that the cut out fabrics appliqued onto the dresses differ from velvet to a woven doodad. There was also a strong presence of velvet in the collection and i can’t wait to shoot it close up backstage at the MTNLFDW. More Visual Delight after the jump.
