Chelsea College of Art and Design Graduate Olubanke Kuku is a textile designer whose prints have been worn by the likes of Michelle Obama, Kelis, Catt Sadler and more thanks to collaborations with top labels like Duro Olowu and Jewel by Lisa. Born in Lagos and currently residing in the UK , when asked about her reason for studying textile design, she says I have had an obsession with textiles since I was young. I was always the little girl who chose the floral print. Textiles is a way I convey my joy, it always comes with love. Fabrics intrigue me from the construction to the surface design and I am always trying to find a way to push the boundaries.Her work is not also limited to fashion as she does interior design as well. Her work Draws inspiration from traditional British and Nigerian textiles.
Regarding collaborations, the designer is keeping her options open and working on bulding her brand and also the release of her product range soon.
