Christopher Bailey and his design team once again have given African fashion bloggers and writers stuff to talk about with his Africa inspired menswear spring 2012 collection. We got a glimpse of the batik prints that are part of the collection when they released pre-collection images earlier but most of us were not ready for the full load of cool Africana that oozed from the Burberry runway in Milan. Batik prints was used for safari shirts, button down shirts, trousers and the signature Burberry trench. The label went a step further proving its luxury status -and doing what all luxury brands should be doing which is innovation- by employing raffia fused knits for caps and the same material used for wine corks as soles for its men’s wedge creepers. Wood was also appliquéd onto some of the knits and the shoes….oh the shoes…mama mia. The bags and some of the shoes featured woven raffia…you don’t get cooler than that. I hear the collection can be ordered online now, need to check if they ship to Nigeria.
