African designers and particularly the ones of Nigerian origin are starting to make a reasonable impact on the global fashion scene. Due to this a lot of attention is now been focused on the new and emerging talent. One worthy of note is Washington born Nigerian designer Bridget Awosika. After bagging a degree in Business Management from Howard University in DC, she decided to follow her real passion which had always been fashion. Fast forward a few years and she’s a graduate of Fashion design from Parsons New York and work experience from top brands like DKNY and Giorgio Armani.
The designer is yet to release her debut collection which is also her ss2011 offering but One Nigerian Boy goes in studio and gets a sneak peek at the much awaited collection.
A closer look at the Aso-oke fabric in turquoise. The collection also possesses the fabric in Pink.
The shapes in the collection are reminiscent of early Parisian couture and she’s pulling all sorts of cultural elements both from music and Nigerian tradition. Her use of the ‘Aso-Oke’ fabric which is iconic and quintessentially Nigerian shows her interplay with modernist trappings and traditional vibes she picked up whilst spending her earlier years in Nigeria.
The colors include white, black, turquoise, lemon green and pink which create a vibrant color palette.

I’m glad and honored to be friends with such an amazing talent and I’m not being biased by declaring that I find her collection flawless. There are so many desirable pieces in them and when this collection finally lands I bet you all would be blown away.

What are your thoughts on the collection?
